Year 4 News

Welcome to Term 2!

We had a busy start to the term with Bike Education last week. A big thank you to the parents for having bikes ready to ride and children prepared and organised with helmets, bikes and happy faces.

Children were very capable (probably because of their year of practise last year while in lockdown!) and performed with enthusiasm and great attitudes. They learned things such as slow and rough riding, tight U-turning, power position, scooting, turning right and left at intersections remembering to scan , signal and scan and lots more!

A very big thank you and special mention to Mrs Debbie O’Brien who organises and runs the program like clockwork for us every year to enjoy.

This week our Survivor Unit of Inquiry is coming to an end. It is notoriously a favourite amongst Year 4 students and remember fondly for years afterwards.

Their journals show their writing journey over the past 10 days and the growth in their description, detail and voice is very pleasing to see.  Some teams of children were rescued by helicopter from the jungle and other’s decisions have forced them to remain there learning to survive in the Amazon while continuing to plan for a next rescue opportunity.  Well done Year 4!

In Maths we are beginning our unit on addition and have looked at symmetry and rotational symmetry in 2D shapes. We encourage children to keep learning and practising their times-tables through apps such as Maths Rocks and websites like Manga-High.

We are continuing to understand and respond what we are reading and viewing through Kids News and BTN. So far this term we’ve read about Leeches in Sydney after the floods and this week we looked at the uniform design for the Australian Olympic Team heading to Tokyo.
