Ellen Jose Bursary Award 2021

Reconciliation through your eyes

The Ellen Jose Bursary Award 2021 is held in honour of long-time resident and Torres Strait Elder Ellen Jose who sadly passed away in 2017.

Ellen’s contribution to the arts and reconciliation was outstanding and was inspirational in bringing awareness to reconciliation. The four bursaries or awards are aimed at primary and secondary students to foster awareness of reconciliation in our young people, the future of Australia. Students must be currently attending a primary or secondary school within the Bayside municipality.

Primary school students are invited to create an artwork that reflects ‘What Reconciliation Means through your eyes.’

There are two categories – Years Prep to 3 and Years 4 to 6.

Each category winner will be awarded $500.

Here are some examples of work being done in the art room that we feel nurture the idea of Reconciliation. During the class sessions the students learn about the diversity and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
