SSV State Swimming
Brentwood had two students compete at the recent SSV Swimming State Championships on April 22 held at MSAC outdoor pool. It’s been a long time since SSV had been able to run these large scale events, and it was great to see the number of swimmers who could compete in a sport they love and have the supporters present to cheer them on.
Dylan Lam, in year 8, competed in the 14 years 50m Breastroke. He placed 6th in a time of 39.08sec. Dylan did have the fastest reaction time off the blocks. Well done!
Vivian Lam, in year 10, competed in the 16-20 years 200m Individual Medley. Vivian, placed 9th (out of 10) with a time of 3:07.59min, 2 seconds faster than her Monash Division time. Well done!
EMR Diving
On Friday, March 23, Brentwood had two students dive at the EMR Diving Championships held at MSAC in Albert Park. Both students attended the coaching workshop in the morning to gain valuable tips and feedback from very experienced coaches to improve their diving. Each diver needed to be able to perform 4 different dives.
Nathan Bridges, in year 8, managed to improve his forward dives and entries during the coaching workshop. Well done!
Natasha Winbanks, in year 8, took a chance with new dives learned and practiced during the coaching workshop. Natasha performed a forward dive, forward somersault, a back somersault and a front jump. Natasha placed 6th in the Eastern Metro Region, just 5 points short of qualifying for the SSV State Diving championships. Well done!
Brentwood is proud of all of our swimmers and divers. Use this experience to set goals towards competing in 2022.

Senior Boys Lawn Bowls
On Tuesday April 20th three teams of boys headed to Ringwood Bowls to participate in the EMR lawn bowls competition. Each of the teams competed in five games against a variety of different school with varying results. Several games were very close and came down to the final few bowls to determine a winner. Throughout each of their games the boys showed incredible sportsmanship and fair play, working in partnership with their opposition with scoring as well as discussing gameplay and strategies.
At the end of the round robin draw, one of our teams, made up of James, Blake and Abdul were successful in making the semifinals. At this point in the day the weather changed significantly, with the temperature dropping several degrees and heavy rain coming in. This provided several challenges for the boys, in particular the speed of the bowls down the green. However, they rose to the challenge taking on Vermont S.C Team 3. A draw at the end of the match resulted in the boys playing an additional end to determine a winner. With some excellent bowls under pressure the team progressed to the grand final.
The final was played against Vermont S.C Team 2 and while the boys made some excellent plays they couldn’t quite contend with the accuracy of the Vermont team, losing 5-3 at the end of the game.
Congratulations to all of the boys on an excellent day, in particular to James, Blake and Abdul for placing 2nd at EMR.
