The 3/4s went to the Melbourne Zoo!

Melbourne Zoo Immersion

We had a wonderful and wild event at the Melbourne Zoo. Year 3/4 students were being immersed into the animals’ experiences within the zoo. We are learning about the importance of maintaining the world’s geographical features to ensure the sustainability of the Earth’s biomes and ecosystems.

Students’ highlights of the experience:

When a butterfly landed on my hand. It was so small and felt weird being on my hand but I loved this experience. (Daniel 3/4BA)

I enjoyed visiting the seals’ aquarium because they were speedily swimming within their pool and flipping onto their backs. I also liked the seal that was sitting on the rock and flapping his flipper at me.(Martin 3/4BA)

My highlight was orangutans climbing down the pole and doing the ninja warrior course in their habitat. There was also another orangutan hiding underneath the blanket because it was shy. (Andy Mbati 3/4NG)

Iona: My highlight of the zoo was the baboon because they were hilarious and funny and cute and cuter than a dog. They were hilarious when they showed tried to climb up trees but kept on falling. (Iona Byju 3/4NG)

I saw lots of animals,my favorite animal was the koala,I loved how they rummaged around their entire habitat.(Aditi Rao 3/4LI)

My mum came to the Melbourne zoo with us. It took an hour to get there. (Brett Lee 3/4LI)

I liked seeing the seals and penguins. (Omal Nathan, 3/4LI)

The lions and orangutans were my favourite part of the zoo as they kept staring at me! (Mathew 3/4FI)

The sea animals were the best as I could see the seals and penguins in the water doing tricks. (Jackson 3/4BA)

What we learnt:

Corroboree Frogs are endangered because they are getting a disease which is covering their skin. As they need their skin to breathe and drink this is stopping them from living.

(Laura and Kolu 3/4BA)

Tasmanian Devil’s greet one another by biting each other’s faces. Unfortunately, this is how  they are becoming endangered because this is spreading a life threatening disease amongst their population. (Calvin 3/4BA)

When we went to the Royal Melbourne Zoo, we learnt that phones (not smartphones) had a chemical which is also found in trees. We also learnt about the Tazzy devil which had cancer on its face and that cancer can make the Tazzy devils starve as well as not breathe. When Tazzy devils meet each other, they bite each other in the face and the disease spreads. We also learnt about an animal called Collared Peccary and it's an omnivore, size of a pig, hunts in groups and it hunts for lions. (Luke Shenoy 3/4NG)

On Thursday the 1st of August, I went to the best zoo ever. We went there to look at the endangered animals. My favourite was the big cats but they were hiding. I was so scared of the snakes but was brave and held one. (Anok Kuany 3/4NG)

On Thursday the 1st of August, the year 3/4 students and teachers went to the Melbourne zoo. I saw a lot of animals and I liked the butterflies because their habitat was warm. One butterfly flew to my chest! We walked so much that my legs were hurting and hurting. (Tavleen Garcha 3/4 LI)
