GROUP v PRIVATE LESSONS
Why do we advocate group lessons for young kids?
Learning in a class with other children is more enjoyable which in turn makes it easier. The “positive peer pressure” serves as a motivational tool as children often feel the need to keep up with their peers. This means parents shouldn't have to nag their kids to practice! (A win-win situation for both parent and child). Learning in a group also improves confidence and self-esteem. Children get the opportunity to perform concert pieces to their class on a regular basis. Performing in a friendly and supportive environment allows them to gain confidence in performance and feel a sense of achievement. Piano lessons, especially for young children should not merely be thought of as "learning to play the piano". Rather, the focus should be on nurturing their interest in music, as well as providing them with a more holistic approach to learning music. This includes aural development, developing a sense of rhythm, pitch and memory.
