Emily Lindsay-Smith

Say bonjour to Emily, our wonderful French teacher.

Bonjour Emily!

Where are you from?

I grew up on a bush block in N.S.W. We’d wake up each morning to kookaburras laughing in the gum trees and my sisters and I used to make cubbies using parts of trees that had fallen down. It was a pretty amazing place to grow up.

What is the luckiest thing that happened to you?

I was lucky enough to live in Montpellier in France when I was 19. I taught English as a language assistant at three different primary schools there. This experience made me realise how much I loved working with kids and is the reason I decided to study primary teaching. I feel like everything has come full circle now that I’m teaching French.

What’s your favourite season of the year?

It’s very hard to pick a favourite season but there’s definitely something special about a beautiful autumn day. The crunchy leaves under your feet, cool air and warm sun - there’s nothing quite like it!

What do you wish you knew more about?

I’m really interested in history and archaeology. I volunteered on a dig in England for a couple of weeks and loved it. We were looking for iron age artefacts. We found some ‘fire-cracked stone’ while I was there which was very exciting. They used to heat up the stones in the fire and then put them in vessels of water to heat it up.

Do you have a pet?

I don’t have a pet but I really would love to have one. One of my sisters has a cat named Pippin who plays fetch – we’re pretty sure she thinks she is a dog!

Rebecca Creswick

Rebecca is our literacy support teacher who plays the violin too!

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

The best vacation was when my family went to Vietnam and Thailand. We have been to those countries many times but the last time we went was particularly special. My husband was on crutches at the time but that did not hold us back!

What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?

My hobbies are reading, Pilates, walking, and eating out. I really enjoy walking with friends. The last walk I did was The Fred Hollows walk on the Mornington Peninsula. That taught me a lot about adequate training.

What's your favourite ice cream flavour / topping?

My favourite ice-cream flavour is ‘Bounty’ from Messina. My whole family loves receiving an ice-cream cake from there for their birthdays. My sons have moved on from requesting a theme like Harry Potter or an intricate beach scene to devouring one of their cakes.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I could only eat one food, it would have to be eggs as they are so versatile. I love eggs any way but poached would have to be my favourite. That was one of the reasons we decided to get chickens. It is extra special eating an egg from one your own hens.

Do you have a pet?

We have three chickens, one dog, two cats, four fish and one turtle. Oreo, our turtle is our latest addition.
