Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hopefulness, connection and gratitude.

These are the three words that sum up Term 3 for me.

Hopefulness is being able to look ahead to the future positively and trusting that all will be well. It is a mindset that is not naïve but is one that places our emotional and spiritual energies in the right direction, toward the best of things and not on cynicism and pessimism. We look forward with hope to a future where students will return to school and their community of teachers and friends.

Peter Hill, Director of Schools Diocese of Wollongong, recently wrote about hope and stated that Pope Francis said, you can’t hope alone, “Maintain a connection to a community of hope.” Turning towards others in our school community and connecting with gestures of kindness, compassion, peace and reconciliation help to fill the void of hopelessness. Otherwise, we can fall victim to desolation and believe all of our struggles are “useless” and “pointless.”

I thank all at St Joseph’s for nurturing in our school a “community of hope.”

A grateful heart is the source of true happiness. I invite everyone in our community to take a moment to turn your heart and thoughts to what you are grateful for over the term rather than on what has not gone well or what you think should have been better.

Thank you to our staff who have reached out to students and parents over the term to keep connections alive, provide hope, lift spirits, help students believe they ‘can’, and worked very long hours to ensure learning has continued, student wellbeing is supported and monitored, and they stay connected

To our parents and carers, thank you for all of your hard work and support of your children during remote learning. You have been amazing under very trying circumstances and we could not have done it without you. Thank you for your connection with us, for your care of staff and gratitude for all our efforts to go the extra mile for you and your children. We have been sustained by your gratitude.

I hope that students can all return to school very soon as education is critical and is best delivered by professional teachers to students, in a classroom. Please enjoy the school holidays with your children, you all deserve a break for recreation, to re-create your spirits and sources of energy, and co-create hopefulness, connection, and gratefulness with others.

St Joseph, pray for us.

Jen Charadia

Principal

We would appreciate your feedback?

Today, you will have received via Compass a Google form inviting you to provide feedback regarding your child's remote learning experience. I really appreciate your time to complete the form.

You will need to complete a form for each child using the forms sent out for your children's individual grades by 1 October 2021..

Thank you.
