Write a Book in a Day

On Tuesday, a group of secondary students braved the crisp morning air to arrive at school early for Write a Book in a Day. They have worked tirelessly to write, 3500-5000 words, incorporating: race cars, graphic designers and castles all in one amazing story.

At the end of our 12 hour day, each group had created an amazing world featuring famous Australian landmarks, politicians and even the iconic tradie. The day was a buzz of brilliant ideas, excellent vocabulary and teamwork. The effort and dedication exhibited throughout the day is a true testament to our students and school. Well done to all involved!

Science

Year 9

Over the last couple of weeks, Yr 9 have been exploring the Theory of Plate Tectonics. They have investigated the technology used to predict, measure and record earthquakes and volcanoes, including seismometers. Using equipment available in the lab, students worked in small groups to design and build a simple model of a seismometer and demonstrated it to the class. When evaluating their design, most groups found they required greater downward force to produce an effective graph. This was also used to enable students to design, plan and conduct first hand investigations and evaluate risks and procedures.

Year 10

In Science, Yr 10 have been investigating Darwin’s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. They carried out an experiment that modeled Sympatric Speciation. They used a variety of tools (to represent finch beak shapes) to pick up lollies (which represented different food types) and watched how adaptations could occur to make organisms better suited to their environments.

The AG Plot

Developing a Sustainable Garden

Over the past couple of weeks the Ag Plot has been bustling with excitement as new projects are being undertaken. In the past week we have had our Water Tanks installed to ensure that we have a sustainable and reliable source to water our produce. Many more developments are underway, and we cannot wait to show you the next update of what is happening at our school!

Stay tuned as there's more to come!

Miss Johnston’s winter gardening tip:

“Start growing tomatoes, eggplant and capsicum seeds on a warm windowsill, ready for planting towards the end of winter, when the soil warms up.”
