St Albans Secondary College had an impressive win at the 2019 Fashion awards.

On Friday 11 October designers from Years 10, 11 and 12 attended the Grand Gala Presentation for the Fashion Awards. We won or achieved a place in many categories including a clean sweep in the Years 9/10 Evening Wear Category. St Albans Secondary College was the overall winner of the Secondary School division, which included schools from across the state in all sectors. Congratulations to the creative team of staff and students in The Arts department, the huge haul of trophies provided acknowledgement for the talent and many hours of dedication the team had put into the designs and finishes of the outfits. The students who modelled were composed, professional and showed off the creations to an appreciative audience of representatives of all the schools in the event, TAFE entrants as well as the private sector of designers.  Well done to all involved it was a fantastic effort. We had the individual winners in both the Year 9/10 and 11/12 Designer of the Year Awards, our congratulations go to Chelsea Tran (Year 12) and Kim Tran (Year 10), who also took out the Rising Star Award. Please read the full story and see the wonderful photos contained in this newsletter.

Year 12 VCAL portfolio presentations

As part of the process of completing their VCAL studies, the Year 12 VCAL students presented their final portfolios to a panel of staff on Wednesday and Friday of last week. This was the final component of their assessment and showcased all they had achieved over the year. The interviews provided an opportunity to share evidence of growth in many of the required capabilities, including numeracy and literacy as well as problem solving, teamwork and leadership. It was impressive to see the body of work carried out by these students who demonstrated maturity and reflective skills when discussing their projects and what they had learned in the process. Congratulations to all our graduating VCAL students, well done on your projects and creating your portfolios.

School for Student Leadership

Congratulations to Ruby Hall, Jaxson Hodge, Anthony Mollica and Annie Nguyen who successfully completed a term of study at the School for Student Leadership. They spent a term, five hours from city in Gippsland, without many of the creature comforts we take for granted everyday such as; mobile phones and social media. They learnt  about themselves and how to be stronger leaders in their community. They will be undertaking a community learning project this term, which aims to raise awareness of the concerns regarding domestic violence and will be fundraising for a local charity that supports victims of domestic violence. The College applauds the work of these students.
