Premiers Reading Challenge

Welcome to the New Year.

Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun for another year. Since the beginning of Week 1, here at the Library, we have had enquiries from students asking “has the Challenge started yet ?” or “when is the Challenge starting ?”. Well, the forms have now gone out to classes and the Challenge is on!

New books have been added to the lists this year and the Library staff will have the appropriate level stickers on them shortly.

Families, remember to check the website, premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au for yourselves to check out “Kidspace”, “Teenspace”, “Hall of Fame” list, and much more.

Our 2016 record was broken last year, with 167 students completing the Challenge! Let’s see if we can exceed that number this year ….. Take the Challenge and get READING!!

From the Librarian

As students launch into their studies for the new year, they will find a few changes have been made in the Library to help them find what they need and to provide a stimulating environment.

Posters have been selected (or created) for colour, excitement and, importantly, to give information that can help students become independent and efficient at finding and using the Library resources. Just as the Secondary area has a special shelf for Classics, now, too, there is one for the General section. You might find your children coming home with some of your own old favourites!

With current interest in the new Storm Boy movie, it has seemed appropriate to highlight Colin Thiele’s marvelous literary contribution for young people. A display of his books has been set up and we have set aside space to display any reviews or drawings children create after reading one of the books. Do encourage your children to become involved. For additional emphasis on the Storm Boy theme, Mrs Fergusson has created a spectacular painting of the Coorong! I’m assuming she did that between 70 times of climbing up and down the Library ladder… if you count the number of posters and pictures smiling down from above the book shelves you’ll know what I mean!

I am delighted that reading will continue to provide special avenues for growth and learning amongst our students.
