Grade 4 Camp

Grade 4 Camp

Last Thursday/Friday the Grade 4s attended their Anglesea camp. We were blessed with fantastic weather and were extremely impressed with how the kids represented Buninyong PS. Every single one of them pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones and we loved watching their achievements. The night walk again proved to be the highlight for all, as well as some excellent team building activities such as Skateboarding, the Giant Swing and Bush Cooking. We had lots of fun!

We were all excited to go on the bus to camp! It took a while to get all our luggage on the bus. The trip took us an hour and a half to get there.

On the way home we all fell asleep. We were all so tired because we did lots of fun activities and a big night walk.

The giant swing was really fun. First they showed us how to put on a harness and then they told us that we all had to pull a rope to lift a person up. Next they said the things that hold you up could lift an elephant. When it was my turn they told me to go on the blue step of the ladder. Everyone started pulling the rope and I got lifted up. When I got to the top (that’s eighteen metres) they shouted “brace yourself three two one” then I pulled a rope that sent me flying down. I swung up and down and up and down until I stopped. It was awesome!

One of the activities we had was archery, how fun! Finn and I were in the same group HOORAY! Tyler was the first person to land an arrow on the target and it was a bullseye on his third shot (WOW)! My aim got better and better until I got all 3 arrows on the target. The instructor said l was very fast at shooting my arrows.

My favourite activity was Skateboarding. I learnt how to turn, move and go on the ramps but the most important part was learning how to stand on the skateboard properly. My favourite ramp was 123cm big and 23 inches long. It may seem small but when you do it, it’s big. I fell and fell but I just needed to persist and then I got it. Then I did all the ramps in one go. I learnt that failing is not the worst. Our instructor said if you fail, you will improve! After he said that, I felt much better.

We had lots of yummy food on camp! For dinner we had teriyaki chicken with fried rice and for dessert we had ice-cream with chocolate sauce. In the morning we got up and Anna and I had to sprint up to the dining hall because we were on breakfast duty. We had to set up the cutlery and the food. I had two pieces of vegemite toast and a bowl of rice bubbles with yogurt. For morning tea we had a muffin and some fruit, then we did one last activity and had lunch. We had salad sandwiches.

I loved walking to the beach because I could chat to my friends Markus, Nash, Scarlett, Ivy and Quinn. We heard the waves crashing. We laughed a lot, especially at Mr Smith. I saw the great stars shining. I was amazed by the walk through the beach. It had lots of fluffy sand and you could see the stars at one point and I collected seashells. It was an amazing time! The views were mind blowing especially when we got near the beach I loved it. Most of my friends fell over but they were fine.

Thank you to all the teachers (Mr McGlynn, Mr Georgiou, Mrs Vermeend, Mr Smith, Miss Cummins, Mr Muldoon and Yuna sensei) that came along to camp. A big thanks also to all the parents that took time out of their week to come and help and to all the camp instructors that made the activities lots of fun! We really enjoyed it!
