Grade One

Grade 1 Report

Throughout the first half of Term Two, our Grade One students have continued to grow demonstrating a willingness to learn and a thirst for knowledge.

In numeracy sessions we have continued focusing on students’ number and place value skills, we have also been exploring the concepts of time, 2D shapes and patterns. The students loved creating shape monsters and shared them with enthusiasm and pride.

In Literacy sessions this term, students enjoyed listening to the book ‘Alpaca’s with Maracas’ as part of the National Simultaneous Story Time. We have continued to extend our vocabulary through daily Talk Time sessions which has been focused around the topic of seasons.

We have been concentrating on expanding students’ knowledge of reading strategies and teaching them how to apply them correctly during reading.

This term we have placed a strong emphasis on resilience and have been providing students with opportunities to learn valuable skills in regulating their emotions and verbalising their feelings appropriately.

The students were lucky enough to have the Cyber Safety Project visit them at the start of the term. This project helped them identify ways that they can remain safe when they are online. The students were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the sessions sparking great discussions in the classroom. We hope that these lessons have assisted with managing online use at home.

Throughout Integrated Studies this term the students have continued to grow and surprise us with their curiosity for sustainable living.

Students have been involved in numerous activities that show our ecological footprint on Earth and how we can improve this.

The students have been learning how to grow and look after plants in the classroom which has given them a sense of ownership and responsibility.

Overall it has been a fantastic term so far full of exploration, curiosity, challenge and fun.

Well done Grade Ones!

Fun in grade one
