Making Music Again!

We have been delighted that our co-curricular ensembles have once again been able to meet and rehearse together after such a long time. Students and directors alike have been enjoying getting into lots of new repertoire and building new ensemble and technical skills. Here are a few pictures from our students hard at work.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Over the last few weeks students in Years 2 and 3 have been exploring Chinese New Year. We have been looking at the ways in which Chinese people celebrate new year with food, dancing and music. As part of our study, we have been manipulating Chinese icons associated with New Year to create rhythm patterns, exploring movement associated with dragon dances using scarves and learning some simple Chinese songs and chants.

Year 3 have been exploring creating different rhythms using Chinese inspired words and icons associated with new year which they then formed into body percussion patterns.

Mrs Seedsman’s Year 2 class choreographed their own dance to traditional Chinese music inspired by moves of the tiger, which is this year’s Chinese zodiac animal.

Co-curricular Dance Ensemble

We are currently working on securing a director for our junior school dance ensemble and hope to start rehearsing as soon as possible. If your child is in Year 1 and above and interested in joining our ensemble, please can you email interest to Mrs Martin at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au so we can notify you when we can begin rehearsals.

Individual Tuition

Instrumental lessons and speech and drama tuition is now in full swing. We appreciate parents’ patience and support as our tutors negotiate scheduling students into times that work for students and their class teachers whilst working around timetable and rooming challenges. We encourage parents to reach out directly via email or phone to their child’s tutor with questions relating to their lessons. For all other queries, please contact us as per below.
