Year 6s

In Semester 1, Year 6 students will embark on a study of letter-writing in German, looking at the structure and formatting of letters, as well as learning the relevant vocabulary, expressions and modelled sentences to share personal information. These letters will be exchanged with students at BRG & BORG Grammar School in St Pölten, Austria, as well as with students at Karrendi Primary School, who will then write back. Students will continue to develop their communication skills in Term 2 through the annual Lockleys North tradition of making Schultüten for Reception students as a celebration of their first 100 days of school

Year 4/5s

In Semester 1, Year 4/5 students will commence a unit called Deutsch macht fit (German makes you fit), with a particular focus on the imperative form and how to write a list of simple instructions. Using the Beijing Winter Olympics, students will look at different verbs, such as to jump, to glide, to steer, to dance and to ski and learn how they are conjugated. They will use modelled sentences to write their own sequence of Yoga moves, finish a dance sequence and explain some soccer tricks. The unit will culminate in them writing a simple fitness session for one of the junior classes. In Term 2, students will learn about German currency, restaurants and shops, developing intercultural awareness through the comparison of their own experiences shopping and eating out with those of their German counterparts.
