Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies

Great Ocean Walk

Last week our Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class set off to camp headed towards Apollo Bay.  The four days on camp allowed our students to experience the Victorian Surf Coast experiencing a range of activities such as surfing, hiking and camping within the Great Otway National Park. The camp included 5 staff and 21 students, including three German exchange students and Thomas our German exchange leader.

Surfing at Skenes Creek

Day one saw our students test their surfing skills at Skenes Creek, just outside Apollo Bay along the coast line. Overall it was a great experience as many of our students had not surfed before and by the end of the session all students were able to stand up and catch a wave.

Hiking through Great Otway National Park

Two days of hiking made up day two and three of camp with our students hiking 10km from Cape Otway to Aire River and then the longer 14km hike from Aire River to Johanna Beach.

This provided our students an opportunity to experience the heart of the Australian National Park along our famous Great Ocean Road coastline full of stunning mountain ranges, coastal views and plenty of flora and fauna.

German Exchange Students

One of the highlights of camp was providing an opportunity for three of our resident German exchange students as well as our German exchange leader Thomas to experience our beautiful coastline. Our visitors successfully surfed a wave, enjoyed an Aussie barbeque and even had a family of Koala's watching them camping from a gumtree above their tent.
