Sports Report

Year in Review

The love for Sport at Patterson River Secondary College this year has once again been as strong as ever. 2016 started off with a bang with our Annual College Swimming Carnival held on day three of term one meaning students were thrown right into the sporting landscape from the get go. The day was a complete success with sunshine, dress ups and many students participating in events in and out of the pool.

Our senior boys Baseball team were able to capture our first Northern Peninsula Division Pennant for 2016 with a strong win over Frankston High School. The recent arrival of American born Carter helped the team of Year 11 students secure the win which was our first Baseball pennant in many years. The rest of term one saw many students from all ages compete in a range of sports including Tennis, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball and Cricket. We had some outstanding results with a number of these teams placing second and third in their age groups.

Term two is renowned for being the big term for sport. Term two offers sports with high participation levels including AFL, Soccer, Netball and badminton. Here at Patterson River we are fortunately quite strong in a number of year levels and were lucky enough to win our way through to Southern Region winning three different pennants this term.

Our Year 7 girls were dominant in both Netball and Soccer winning their respective championships, as well as our senior boys soccer team who won their third consecutive Northern Peninsula Division title. Again we closely missed out clinching a few more titles with a high numbers of teams placing second and third in their age groups.

Term two also was home to our annual athletics carnival held at Ballam Park. The day was a raging success with great weather, a fully stocked canteen and many students attending and giving their best efforts in all track and field events. Many students who won their individual events progressed through to division and regional carnivals with many students medalling at regional level which is a great effort. Lachlan Fleming-Ritter in year 11 has progressed through to the State Finals for the second year in a row.

Term three is our final term for Interschool Sport with only Basketball, Hockey and Table Tennis offered. Unfortunately we were unable to win any pennants this term but all the students who participated did so with incredible desire and passion for their teams and we couldn’t ask for anything else on the days.

Overall the year has been incredibly successful for Sport within the College, we won four Northern Peninsula Division Championships and finished in the top three in many carnivals. All students who participated did a fantastic job and all staff who helped coach teams gave up their own personal time for trainings and it is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to another successful year in 2017.
