Shepparton Education Plan

Shepparton Education Plan

Last week, the Minister for Education, James Merlino, announced the transition plan for the merger of the four secondary schools (Shepparton High School, McGuire College, Wanganui Park Secondary College and Mooroopna Secondary College) in 2020.

This transition plan will provide the foundation to bring year level groups together onto the same campus, over a two year period (2020 and 2021).

We know that there will be a number of key logistical matters to be addressed this year, to gear up for next year, and we’ve started work on these – which include uniforms, bus transportation, school values and culture, and governance arrangements.

The table below indicates what this means for each of the Year levels attending our school presently.

Minister Merlino outlined the impact on the other schools of the staged transition plan, which can be summarised as:-

  • All Year 7 students will start at McGuire campus, studying a program specifically designed to enhance literary and numeracy skills and extend their critical thinking.
  • In 2020 Shepparton High School students move to Wanganui Park Campus, except for Year 9s
  • They, and Year 9s from the other 3 secondary schools, will go to a dedicated Year 9 program at Mooroopna
  • Mooroopna’s Year 8 and 10 students remain at Mooroopna campus, while Mooroopna’s senior students will move to either Wanganui Park campus or McGuire campus depending on their subject choices
  • Other students remain at their current school site.

This transition plan will provide the foundation to bring year level groups together onto the same campus, over a two year period (2020 and 2021).

Commencing early next term, we will run a series of forums and information sessions for parents/guardians and students.  Details of these will be provided in the school newsletter, so please keep an eye out for these.

We also have a parent group named “Partners in Learning”, and we would like to use this forum to hear any of your ideas, questions and concerns relating to the transition process.  The next meeting of this group will be on Tuesday, April 30 at 7.30pm in the Boardroom. If you have any questions or comments please email the school at Wanganui.park.sc@edumail.vic.gov.au  your thoughts will be considered.

Thankyou
