VET Sound Production

Salt Studios Excursion
On Thursday February 22nd, the Year 2 VET Sound Production class went out to Salt Studios in Brighton. We Split into 2 groups and undertook workshops with Peter Frawley and Dylan Boyd, who own and manage the studio. They have been in the industry for a combined total of nearly 50 years. Each session went for about 90 minutes.
During the day we watched a demonstration of mixing with Peter and learned valuable skills on mixing pre-recorded projects as well as how to use all the tools to alter how sounds are perceived. We also looked at identifying errors and ways to fix these. In the second session with Dylan we examined mixing and mastering, with a hands-on tutorial in the Mac Lab. Dylan had us focusing on the artistic intention of the song and put our skills into a whole new perspective.
Overall, the excursion to Salt Studios was a great opportunity to expand out knowledge in Sound Production. We cannot wait to go back in May and continue working in this environment.
