Principal's Report

Thank you

In this last newsletter of this first semester I just wanted to stop and say thank you to everyone who makes Kalinda such a great place. I am so grateful to work with such a wonderful school community and you all play your part in ensuring we maximise learning and wellbeing outcomes for all of our students.

  • Thank you to the teachers for continually reflecting on your practice and striving to improve every day.
  • Thank you to the ES staff members for supporting students as they face challenges with their learning and their wellbeing.
  • Thank you to the admin staff for managing the school's resources in a professional, kind and calm manner.
  • Thank you to Justine for bringing us joy and happiness with her beautiful food.
  • Thank you to Ted for maintaining our buildings and grounds to keep us safe.
  • Thank you to Kelly for inspiring the cooks and gardeners of the future.
  • Thank you to Pete for bringing happiness to so many families at the start and the end of the day with his positive attitude at the school crossing.
  • Thank you to our Challenge Team Staff and our School Tutors for supporting and extending student learning.
  • Thank you to Wendy for managing and organising our school library.
  • Thank you to our P&F for making our school a real community and building memories through the events that you plan.
  • Thank you to the parent volunteers who make excursions, the Kitchen Garden prorgram, PMP, reading support etc possible.
  • Thank you to the School Council who is working strategically to support our improvement journey as the school.
  • Thank you to sub-committee members who add their talent, skill and experience to planning and actions that make our school a better place.
  • Thank you to all the parents, carers, grandparents, uncles, aunties, older siblings, etc who support student learning and wellbeing (particularly through Remote Learning).
  • Thank you to our wonderful students - you support one another and bring us all joy as you strive to do your best with everything you do.
  • Finally thank you to everyone within and connected to this school community - a community relies on everyone's contributions to make it a great culture, and that is something that I see is clearly evident at Kalinda every day.

Feed forward

'When you think of giving feedback start giving feed forward, focus on the promise of the future rather than the mistakes of the past.' (Marshall Goldsmith)

As we come to the end of our first semester and students receive their reports, it is a time to celebrate the learning progress our students have made.

Sharing academic and social progress with families is crucial in enabling you to know that your child is progressing and that the school is supporting your child to maximise their learning outcomes.

Formal semester reports are only one small part of the feedback we are providing your students. Setting goals, working towards them, assessing learning, providing feedback and then setting new goals is part of the ongoing learning cycle within the classroom. Students can no longer be passive participants being taught to, but they must be empowered learners who have a thorough understanding of what, why and how they are learning.

With this in mind,  after reading their reports it is a great time to discuss with your child their next learning goals. What are they planning to work on in Term 3? How will they achieve this improvement and if they achieve it how will they know? How can we support their learning goals?

With our new report format that includes detailed curriculum checklists in Numeracy and Literacy it is now much easier to see what your child has achieved and also what they are working towards.

Please see Lauren's Assistant Principal page for further details on our updated reports.

Congratulations to every student on a great semester's work. Thank you to our wonderful teaching and support staff for their skill, passion and dedication. And thank you to our entire school community for supporting your children in order to provide fantastic learning opportunities for all of them.

2022 Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for 2022 and it would be great to start receiving your enrolment forms for students beginning in Foundation (or at other levels next year).
