Welcome back to our June update.

Before returning to lock down we had some awesome stuff happening throughout the junior school groups.

Year 7

Mathematics- Year 7 were focusing on growing their skills on decimals and self-differentiated. On the last day before lock-down all students in year 7 tried really hard on their test. Our year 7 Mathematics teachers are very proud of their achievements.

English - Year 7 studies Ancient Greece and moved onto Ancient China once lock-down started. Building their skills on Oral Presentations in preparation for onsite learning again.

Art - Our year 7 Art students are currently completing their unit of work around Shoe designs. This involved students creating designs they would like to see on a shoe of their choice. Then they had a go at actually putting their designs on shoes provided to them.

Year 8

Physical Education - Year 8 PE Theory was all about Active lifestyles. Students studied the ins and out of what this means and how to have their own active lifestyle. They then completed an assessment.

In their Practical classes one group focused on their skills in Basketball and the other on Futsal.

Science - Students were investigating the way light refracts through differently shaped objects using Hodson light boxes. Currently during remote learning students have been investigating sound, including a practical investigation they ran at home.

STEM - 7/8 built and launched bottle rockets, then started building rubber band powered cars

Art - Our year 8 Art students are currently completing their unit of work around Street art. This consisted of learning about spray paint and how to use it correctly. Learning and understanding the difference between Vandalism and Street Art. Then creating their own work using spray paint using the correct safety measures.

We have seen a massive growth in our students and their ability to persevere this year through the lock-down situations and returning to remote learning. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the amount of stress this puts on our young people and their families. It take a lot of strength to admit its hard but keep on pushing forward.

With the return to school in site please remember:

  • Full school uniform is to be worn everyday.
  • On days students have PE they can wear PE uniform.
  • No external track suits or hoodies. They MUST be school uniform.
  • Remember all your equipment before class.
  • Be on time and do not waste time talking at the lockers.

Until next time.

Keep warm, keep healthy and do your best to keep smiling.
