Public Speaking Awards

Congratulations to all involved!

  • Chelsey D (Year 12) won the DAV Senior Public Speaking Competition with strong performances in her prepared and impromptu speeches, presenting a passionate speech on ‘the demonisation of femininity’.
  • Hugh P (Year 12) and Michael X (Year 10) were runners-up in their respective heats of the Rotary Ainger Peck Award and both qualified for the Grand Final. Unfortunately due to a clash with the VCE play, Hugh wasn’t able to compete the final. Michael, however, was able to represent Huntingtower in the Grand Final and placed second. He gave a highly entertaining speech on the importance of mistakes and ‘If Cinderella’s slipper was a perfect fit, then why did it fall off?’

Congratulations to everyone involved in a wide range of public speaking competitions. The fact that we have so many students participating and then performing at such an exceptional level is truly amazing.

Thank you also to Mrs Goddard (Public Speaking) and to Mr Drennan, Mrs Clarke, Ms Lopez and Mrs Christensen (DAV Debating Competition) for all the time and energy they so graciously give our students to help prepare them for the many public speaking competitions we enter.

As you can see, this is an extremely busy, creative and engaging space!
