Junior School

The Waverley RSL thanked the Year 6 class for their assistance with the collection of $527.00 for the 2021 ANZAC Appeal.  These funds raised through the ANZAC Appeal by the Huntingtower community help the RSL's very important work in supporting veterans and their families in times of need.

Year 6 - Leadership

All Year 6 students took part in a Leadership Day Camp on campus and some also took part of in IPSHA Leadership Day. Their report is as follows:

The leadership day was a fruitful experience for us as we got to work and learn with students from other schools. There was a wide range of leadership based activities that we completed on the day. We learnt about self leadership and leadership in your community. We also learnt about followship, which means following but also contributing to a team.

The amazing race was a wonderful experience for us as we got to display our problem solving skills, teamwork and resilience along with trust with our peers.

We are all very grateful for having the opportunity to be part of the leadership day.

Year 4 - Art

The Year 4 students have had a busy semester and have worked hard to develop their skills in charcoal drawing, screen-printing their own tote bags, paper collage and acrylic painting.

We began the semester drawing Australian native flowers with charcoal and chalk. The students then designed and cut a paper stencil based on their flower drawings which was used to screen-print their own tote bag. The students loved learning the screen-printing process and worked together in teams of 2 or 3 to help each other with the printing.

More recently the students have completed their ‘journey’ stories with acrylic paint. The class studied the work of contemporary Australian Indigenous artists who depict journeys in their artworks. We discussed different types of journeys (both physical and mental) and students used symbols to depict their chosen personal stories in picture form. The students loved working on A2 size paper and using the acrylic paint in an expressive way. They should feel very proud of their ‘journey’ stories – well done Grade 4s!

Naplan

At the conclusion of the NAPLAN testing week, the students in Year 3 and Year 5 enjoyed working together to ice and decorate biscuits for afternoon tea. Delicious fun! NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. A NAPLAN individual student report will be issued later in the year.
