Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

Well, here we are again in lockdown. While we were hoping to get through the year without further interruptions to onsite learning, our staff and students are now so familiar with remote learning that a smooth transition to our remote platform is anticipated which, we hope, will result in very little disruption to student learning, as long as the lockdown isn’t extended for too long.

Can I please ask our parents and carers to continue to encourage your sons and daughters to engage in their online classes and make sure they attend homeroom and each class every day. Student absentee text messages will continue to be sent out during remote learning so if your son or daughter is unable to attend class due to illness or other reasons please message the absentee hotline as you would during regular, onsite schooling. For families who need supervision for their children at school please email principal@tcc.vic.edu.au

200 years of Catholic Education

Last week the Ballarat Diocese celebrated Catholic Education Week. This year was a particularly important celebration due to Catholic education in Australia reaching the significant milestone of 200 years.

Trinity College sent representatives to Ballarat for Mass at the Cathedral and our Year 7 – 10 students took part in reflection days led by the Catholic Youth Ministry Team. On Tuesday, May 25 we hosted an afternoon tea for all the Catholic school staff in the Colac region.

Fr Michael along with the staff from Trinity College, St Mary’s, Sacred Heart and St Brendan’s came together to celebrate the positive impact Catholic Education has had on the young people and families in our region.

Year 7 2022 Interviews Postponed

Unfortunately, due to the COVID lockdown we have had to postpone our Year 7 2022 interviews, but hope these can be rescheduled soon. We hope that all events that have had to be cancelled this week will be rescheduled and hopefully we will be in a position to communicate date changes once there is some certainly around our return.

At this stage we have had no official word about the GAT (General Assessment Task), which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9 although the fact that the papers were not delivered yesterday or today points to the possibility that this year’s GAT will be postponed.

Once again, as soon as we receive any official notification from VCAA we will pass this on to our families. For those who don’t know, the GAT is a 3 hour assessment task that all students studying a VCE Unit 3/4 subject are required to complete.

Due to the large number of students required to complete the GAT and the need for the students to have no interruptions, we always have a student free day for those not completing the GAT. If the GAT is postponed, Wednesday June 9 will revert to a normal school day, assuming we are all back onsite at that time.

Return to School

I apologise that at this stage there is not much certainty around what the future holds in terms of coming back to school. Hopefully we will soon be in a position to make some definite announcements around future events and what restrictions will be back in place once we return to onsite learning.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of remote learning or if your child is experiencing difficulties with their wellbeing or learning.
