Musicians on the Road

Trinity’s very own Concert Band headed off on their first tour last Wednesday. The 11 very talented and excited young musicians along with music teachers Miss Wiedemann and Mrs Kerr toured around local primary schools.

Beginning at St Mary’s Primary School, the band performed as an ensemble along with duets and solos for the staff and students. The first performance was a great success and set the standard for the rest of their tour.

The Concert Band's next performance was given in front of St Brendan’s students where they were able to interact with the musicians and play percussion alongside them.

Sacred Heart was their final and largest audience for the day with around 450 students and staff. The day showcased great team building along with some of the talented musicians we have at Trinity College.

Year 7 student Caitlin Johns summarised the day:

On Wednesday 26th of May the Trinity College Band went out to perform at St Mary's, St Brendan's and Sacred Heart. They played as a band and did a range of duets and solos. They also got participation from the crowd to help with dynamics and conducting. The band performed to a range of 60-500 students at each school. The songs they played were Rolling Along, a Mozart melody, London Bridge, When the Saints and Old Macdonald.

In the band the instruments being played are Clarinets, Saxophones, Violin, Flute, Trumpet and Drums.  The band is made up of school students playing a variety of instruments, most getting music lessons at school. If you would like information on how to get music lessons you can get a form from Reception.

Jazz Workshop

Year 7 Concert Band members from Trinity joined forces with students from Colac Secondary College and Sacred Heart to create a bigger ensemble for the Jazz Melbourne workshop on Wednesday, May 19.

Presenters Toshi Clinch and Carlo Barbaro, both jazz musicians from Melbourne, worked with the students for the day and covered techniques to enhance ensemble performance as well as giving students information about how to get the most out of a practice session. Trinity VCE music students also completed a workshop with Carlo and delved into the world of Jazz and where it had come from as well as tips for ensemble playing and their Solo Recitals. Students then joined forces for a Jazz Improvisation workshop.
