Principal's Report

Young Leaders Day

On Monday last week, our Student Leaders had a fantastic day in at the Melbourne Convention Centre with Simone Ryan participating in a day dedicated to growing their leadership skills. They heard from Jade Slater, Lachie Smart, Josh Pike, Michelle Young, Jordan Lewis and Jimmy Rees on the day. Our student leaders play an important role across our school and being able to connect with other young leaders and listen to the journeys of others builds on their knowledge and skills.

Cross Country

Last Tuesday I had the great pleasure of attending District Cross Country with our students. The weather tried to spoil the fun, however we only needed to endure a few short showers. We had a number of students finish in the top 12 and receive an invite to the next level of competition, which was an amazing result. In saying that the absolute highlight for our school was the grit of all of the students and also the encouragement they gave all students, most of the time the Marlborough students who were not competing in the race that was running were to be found trackside clapping and cheering on their team as they ran to the finish line. Overall our result was 5th on the day, which is a fantastic effort for our school!

Lockdown

We again this week find ourselves in lockdown with remote learning back in effect. Our approach this week has been to provide students and families the opportunity to engage in Reading, Writing and Maths each day, with their Inquiry work woven through the week. This will continue across the next 5 days of schooling as per the Acting Premiers announcement yesterday. Remote Learning is never our preferred model of learning and teaching, however as we all are currently being asked to do, we must follow the DHS directives.

It is so important to be looking after our own well-being during this time. Our approach to Remote Learning has always aimed to be centred around ensuring that families are able to engage with the learning program at a time that suits them (by having two days of work sent out at once so you are able to juggle work and school commitments in your household), offer Webex sessions within a timetable so that if your children are able to attend in rotation and have the understanding that while we would love to see learning tasks happening each school day, that there are times where this is just not possible.

We have our Parents Association Frozen meals and also family packs of some basic grocery supplies available at any time for families who need a little assistance at this time. We have families who rely on casual work, which can currently not take place,  so please get in contact with me neil.butler@education.vic.gov.au for support at this time and will be able to assist.
