Year 12 VCE Update

Onsite assessments
We are very pleased that the VCAA has advised that in line with the stay at home advice from the Victorian Government we can have Year 12 students onsite for essential assessments. Essential assessments are SACs and SATs that cannot be conducted remotely and rely on resources that can only be at the school. The guidelines and advice around this are very strict and a large range of protocols including temperature testing, social distancing and increased cleaning have been implemented so that these assessments can take place. This provision will be for practical or performance based subjects. If your task is onsite you will receive and event notification from Compass with the details.
General Achievement Test – GAT – Wednesday 7th October 10am – 1.15pm
This year more than ever sitting the GAT is essential for all students. To ensure the fairness of final results, the VCAA will consider all available information, including the General Achievement Test (GAT) and appropriate comparisons of performance across all assessments and schools.
The GAT is a three-hour general knowledge and skills test. All VCE and VCAL students enrolled in a Units 3 and 4 VCE or SCORED VET study this year are expected to sit the GAT exam.
GAT results:
- help check that school-based and external assessments have been accurately assessed
- contribute to statistical moderation of school-based assessment results
- help calculate Derived Examination Scores
- determine scores in school-based assessment, external assessment and if a derived examination score is required due to illness, accident and trauma.
The questions on the GAT focus on the following areas: written communication, mathematics, science and technology and humanities, the arts and social sciences. Students are expected to complete two writing tasks and 70 multiple-choice questions. Practice papers are available on the VCAA website.
