What's happening in the 3/4 classrooms

The 3/4 students are continuing to apply themselves well during home learning by contributing thoughtful ideas and opinions to group discussions, joining focus group sessions and presenting their learning in a variety of ways via digital means.

The students are currently writing their information reports for their chosen Natural Disaster, where they have been learning to use appropriate language and structural features for this text type. This topic has continued through into their Inquiry learning, where they have been exploring the cause and effects of Natural Disasters in the world around them.

In reading, students have been using clues from given texts such as headings, topic sentences and repeated phrases to identify the main idea and supporting ideas in a text. It has been great to see students examining their texts in this way to develop a deeper understanding of what they are reading.

For Mathematics, students have been learning and applying strategies for addition and subtraction of one and two-digit numbers. This has included strategies such as using number lines, partitioning, bridging through ten, counting on and finding the difference.

In Religious Education, students have been exploring scripture and identifying the "sacred spaces and places" that they have noticed in Jesus’ life. Students are having meaningful conversations about the significance of sacred spaces and places particularly in the Catholic tradition which has brought a deeper understanding of the importance of these places and what they represent.

In Social and Emotional Learning this week we are continuing our focus on Persistence. As part of their learning, students have been thinking about grit and determination, and what it means to work hard and achieve their goals. This week they have created a vision board to help them set and reach goals for future learning.
