What's happening in the Junior classrooms

Congratulations to the Preps for celebrating 100 days of school last Wednesday. They celebrated by making crowns and eating their snacks together.

During maths, the Preps are focusing on the difference between two numbers and the concept of more or less. In Year 1, having completed addition and subtraction, the students are now moving onto the mathematical idea of length. Year 2 will continue learning about repeated addition and arrays before moving onto division.

In Religious Education, the preps have been learning how to pray using the five fingers of prayer. In Years 1 and 2, the children have been learning about more formal prayers such as The Hail Mary.

In Social and Emotional Learning, the topic of Persistence and the emotions that you feel when you are persistent is our focus. Students are learning about frustration, disappointment, anger, calmness and pride and how to recognise these feelings in themselves.

In Literacy, the year 1/2s are continuing to develop their understanding of how to write information reports based on the four seasons. They have already completed an information report about Summer and Autumn and are now learning about Winter and Spring. The preps are learning how to inference when reading a book (how to read between the lines).

For  Inquiry investigations, the Junior school has been learning about the different types of weather and the seasons that they occur.  The preps have been investigating the wind by using homemade windsocks. The Year 1 and 2s have been building on their knowledge of the weather and its connection to the seasons.
