Senior leadership

2021 Senior Leadership election process

Elections for our 2021 SRC School Captains and Leadership team took on a new format this year.  As in past years, the students had to provide a written nomination outlining what their motivation was for applying for the role, and what personal qualities they possessed for the position. This was followed by an informal chat with Mrs James, Mrs Green, Mrs Randall and Mrs Kennedy to discuss their application.  We were highly impressed with each applicant, and felt much pride that we have such quality people in Year 11.

After this, things got very different from past years and speeches were recorded at school and broadcast to other students and staff instead of speeches being made in the Gym. Below, are a few reflections from those who participated.

Mrs Green, Year 11 Adviser

Applying for a position on the Senior Student Representative Council requires a level of commitment and purpose.

Personally, I applied because I wanted to help the school.  If you speak with passion, if you write a speech that comes from the heart, the speech will naturally flow.  I had to write three speeches before I found the right one!  Don’t be scared to redo.  When you speak in front of a camera, it feels exactly like you are talking to yourself. The one minute, the second limit was a bit of a surprise but it went smoothly in the end.  AGAIN, I CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, once you enter into the “zone” or that flow state, it’s easy to keep going.

Trinity Le, Year 11

This process of doing a  leadership speech is a new experience and certainly has been an interesting one. Considering the circumstances given, this method has ultimately been the best way to approach it.

Anna Tien, Sophia Kouch, Jasmine Quach, Edwin Tarawali, Year 11

This whole experience of doing speeches in this way is very different and was a good

experience.    I didn’t have to speak in front of hundreds of people.

 Gabriella Porecca, Year 11

The whole idea of saying a speech in from of the whole grade was nerve wracking,

however, once I did my speech I felt a wave of relief and excitement because I was way out of my comfort zone.
