The world around us

Rarely before has the study of History been so relevant and important for the understanding of the world around us.  History at Cecil Hills High School has been focusing on some of the most important historical events of the past.

2020 has been a big year for world history

Year 10 students have been studying the Holocaust.  Ms Campbell’s class have been looking at Nazi propaganda for purpose, perspective and manipulation.  In this changing world of social media and fake news, it is important for students to develop the skills needed for recognising what is true and what isn’t.  Often, this can be a difficult task.

A close study of Nazi propaganda reveals the nature of the Nazi regime, as well as the methods they used to manipulate the representation of German Jews and other groups they wanted to persecute. Their aim was to depict these people in a certain way that was different to the reality. Their purpose was to influence German people to think differently about them. Year 10 students have studied these examples very closely, looking at the imagery, symbolism and language of propaganda, as well as the impact this propaganda had on the German people and the groups of people they were persecuting.
