The message of Condolence from Pope Francis

“I willingly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest, and in paying tribute to her life of unstinting service to the good of the Nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises.”

The Australian Government has announced Thursday 22 September will be a

National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II. It will be a national public holiday.

There will be Mass for the soul of Queen Elizabeth II at St Patrick's Church at 9 am.

All are welcome to attend.

A Statement From Archbishop Timothy Costelloe Sdb, President Of The Australian Catholic Bishops

The death of Queen Elizabeth II, after a long reign marked by extraordinary
constancy, fidelity, courage and service, will bring great sadness to many people in Australia, including members of the Catholic community.

As the Queen enters into the great mystery of eternal life with the Lord,
we will pray for the repose of her soul and for the support and comfort of her family, her nation and the wider community of the Commonwealth.

Queen Elizabeth was never reticent about acknowledging her Christian faith.
Her annual Christmas message invariably focused on Jesus Christ
as a model of humble and generous service.
It was a model she strived to emulate throughout her long life.

May she rest in peace ... Amen
Our school motto is Christ is our Model.
May we model our words and actions on Jesus and
humbly serve others like Queen Elizabeth II.

Thank You

Kay Power thanks the children for colouring in and laminating the bees for the Vinnie's shop window.

Baptism

A number of our students have expressed a desire to be baptised. They have expressed this throughout the year and have wanted to know more about the Catholic faith and how to follow Jesus more deeply.

In consultation with Father Thaddeus, we would like to prepare these children for Baptism in Term 4. Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation in our Catholic Faith. The other two are First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

The Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation or Confession) is usually received before First Holy Communion. We will be offering the Sacrament of Penance in Term 1 2023 and First Holy Communion in Term 2 2023 to coincide with the feast of Corpus Christi in June.

We will be sending home a note home this week with further details and a form that we'd like all families to complete.

St Joseph's has baptised students in the past with Gabbie, Luca and Marco and Bree being baptised in 2019.

Catholic Mission SOCKTOBER

We will be taking part in the SOCKTOBER campaign in Term 4. We are partnering with Catholic Mission to invite our students to connect with young people experiencing challenges in the developing world through education and the world game of soccer.

This year, our collective fundraising efforts will support vulnerable children in Ethiopia who are experiencing food insecurity and malnutrition. One example of what we are supporting is the Deberety Farm project in Emdibir, four hours from the capital, which aims to address these issues, primarily by raising goats that produce life-giving milk for infants who are most at risk.

Our Mini Vinnies will view the support material and plan our Catholic Mission fundraising event on Thursday the 27th of October.

Socktober 2022 Goal                                                        food security and life-saving nutrition in Ethiopia

In 2022, students and their families across Australia will raise funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity.
Our projects on the ground will help sustain and enrich the lives of vulnerable children who are in need of our support.
Your support will keep them running.

God bless you and keep you safe.
