Did you know that there are different types of clouds?  This term in Science, the Preps have been observing the weather and recording their observations in a weather journal.  They have been learning about clouds and looking at the differences.  Students had great fun creating their own cloud pictures.

In Inquiry, students have been learning about the needs of animals and their habitats.  Students have been creating their small world habitats in Investigations.

In reading, students have been learning about non-fiction texts and their features.  Students have loved exploring the library for non-fiction texts and finding out some very interesting facts!  It is great seeing the students reading with curiosity!

In writing, students have started their Information Report on their own animal.  Students have been learning about drawing a labelled diagram and using descriptive words to describe its appearance.

It has been a great (still wet) start to the term, but as always there is so much fun and learning happening!

Kind Regards,

Level 1/2 News

Time sure does fly by when you’re working hard. The first two weeks back have been very exciting and full of new learning.

In Maths we have explored measuring and comparing the mass and capacity of objects. We learnt new terminology such as hefting, mass, capacity, full, empty, light, lightest, heavy, heaviest, metric units and many more. We had the chance to use the terminology while measuring and comparing objects within the classroom. Why not ask us what we have discovered!

Our families might have noticed we are sharing our opinions more as we have been learning how to persuade the reader to agree with our opinions through our writing. We love sharing our ideas and opinions, but we also love our reading and over the last two weeks we have explored some wonderful authors. We have discussed the author's purpose, the moral of the story and practiced our summary recaps. Reading is like dreaming with our eyes wide open, therefore we love sending library books home to share.

During Inquiry time we have started to explore our new topic of ‘Technology’ and ‘Robots’. We are learning that technology is something that has been invented to make our lives easier. Students have been thinking about inventions we use in everyday life that help us, like sharpeners, a hair brush, chair, toaster..... and the list goes on. Perhaps you can look around your house and see other items of ‘technology’.

Please remember to pack a hat and a water bottle for school, as the weather is becoming warmer and UV rays are getting stronger.

Level 5/6 News

What a busy and exciting start to Term 4! Grade 5/6 had an awesome time at Camp Coonawarra. It was fantastic to see the support and encouragement that everyone gave, with lots of fun and sometimes challenging activities. 56C share some reflections about their experience:

Jordan: The best thing about camp was the flying fox. It was so much fun, the feeling of floating in the air was so good. Another reason why I liked it so much was because it went over a big lake and you were on the zipline for 20-30 seconds. Something I found challenging was high ropes. You needed to balance on metal ropes and move from end to end. It was terrifying, but I did it!

Bobbi: The best part of camp was all the activities including the flying fox, giant swing, raft building, and much more. Something I found challenging was climbing up the climbing wall but I did it and it turned out to be fun!

Ethan A: The best thing about camp was the giant swing because when you pulled the rope you could feel the adrenaline flow. Something I found challenging was the archery – I could not hit the target! A funny moment was when I fell off my raft and landed in the water!

Luke V: The best thing at camp was the giant swing – it was fun and scary so it made it really exciting! Something I found challenging was archery because it was hard to aim the arrow.

Lexi B: The best thing about camp was the flying fox and the raft building because I am afraid of heights and I was so scared, but I really wanted to try something new. The giant swing was challenging because you had to pull a rope and you drop really fast and then you swing!

Caylem: The best thing about camp was going on the giant swing because although it was very scary it was great fun.

Malik: The best thing about camp was the giant swing because it was exhilarating!

Archer: Something I found challenging was building the raft and making it perfect but in the end our raft survived and we won our race!

Adelaide: Something I found challenging was the giant swing because I’m scared of heights, but I did it twice and I went to the top both times! It felt terrifying as you fall but amazing as you started swinging!

Myles: Camp was amazing because we got to do heaps of activities – I loved the giant swing but the raft building was my favourite.

Mia: The best thing about camp was the giant swing because you would drop and then swing. I went all the way to the top, to try something new even though I was really scared. It was 18metres tall and I screamed as I dropped. It was fun and terrifying.

Kayla: The best thing about camp in my opinion was the activities, because the camp workers were really nice and the activities were fun and creative. My favourite was the giant swing and I went to the top!
