I cannot believe how quick this last month has flown by. Over the last four weeks I posed to our Year 10 group the following phrase from Marvin Phillips: “The difference between try and triumph is just a little umph.”

As the students headed into their final month of Term 3, I was fully aware of their feelings of stress, tiredness, tension, and exhaustion, but it was important we hung onto our goals and aims and really gave it one last push to succeed. As I reflected on the term and the opportunities I had with the Year 10 students, I felt a great sense of pride. This term I challenged the cohort continuously to be better in multiple aspects. From connection with others, to uniform expectations, general manners, engagement in class, and personal goals, I challenged the girls to ask more from themselves and set the bar high. I can honestly say I witnessed improvement, and I truly believe we pushed through a tough term together, connected, engaged, and a with a willingness to always be better and an ability to overcome adversity. I look forward to our final term together as we begin to transition into the life of senior school seamlessly. Keep an eye out for key dates and events next term involving Year 10.

For this Parent Corner I asked some of the girls to share their reflections for the term.

Term 3 was an exciting term, enabling us to connect with a variety of people in Year 10 and improve engagement across all subjects. As a year level but, more importantly, a group, we have welcomed many new students helping them along their first days at Mount Alvernia. This opened new connections and opportunities to grow friendships with one another. With minimal exams this term the assignments quickly piled up. Running low on energy and proper sleep, the stress became evident but, with support and advice from friends, Miss Daniec, and other teachers, we balanced our school, home, and social life. This term saw many learning opportunities; as a cohort we went on the P.A.R.T.Y. program and learnt many important and fundamental life lessons. Overall, this term has been a really exciting and busy with many fun opportunities; many of us are excited for Term 4 and the responsibility of having a little sister and welcoming them to Mount Alvernia.

During Term 3 of Year 10, the term has been full of highlights and memories that has made our cohort stronger and ready for senior schooling. These highlights have included sporting events and teamwork activities, such as Padua vs Mt A dodgeball and trivia with the younger year level. We also were given the opportunity by the P.A.R.T.Y. program to deepen our knowledge and understand what problems can occur as we grow older and take on real-life responsibilities. This term has been one to remember and has allowed us to get a realistic view into our future senior years at this college.
