Performing Arts - Sandra Stanton

Howdy all,

It’s only the start of the term and we’re already off!  After a successful showing at Trinity Primary: Offline and Onstage students will continue to build on and refine their performance skills this term.  Years 3/4 and 5/6 began the term by creating covers for their drama journals – writing affirmations and identifying their strengths as people and performers and finding pictures that showcase their inspirations.  Drama journals are useful apparatuses that allow students to keep track of ideas, feedback and reflection throughout the rehearsal process.  Prep and Year 1/2 started the term off exercising their acting chops.  Preps were working through improvisations of familiar characters from Goldilocks and the Three Little Pigs, answering questions as their characters and re-enacting different scenes from the stories with movement and expression.  Year 1/2 students were given a short script to provide a basis for improvised characters.  They were encouraged to make bold choices and go with their gut instincts as they acted the scene between a monster and a scientist.  As the term progresses learners will be harnessing their performance skills to bring to life characters in group scenes, duo scenes, and monologues.  Look forward to seeing some fantastic performances during student led conferences!

Until then some performances to be on the lookout for:

  • Friday, October 21st: Year 5/6 Drama Club students have been invited to perform a few songs from the concert at Dame Nellie Melba Kindergarten’s Spring Fair.  Students will be on stage from 5:30pm – 5:45pm at the outdoor stage at DNMK (18 Goodwood St, Richmond).  There will also be additional performances and activities to do at the festival.  Tickets can be purchased at TryBooking or scan the QR code on the posters around the school!
  • Friday, October 28th: During Week 4 Assembly, Year 3/4 Drama Club students will be performing short scenes, including some originals written by the students themselves.

Hope to see you all there!

Students in Prep CD do an improvisation as the three little pigs.  They mimed building their homes and then answered why they had chosen their certain material.  Improvisational games encourage students to walk in a character’s shoes and consider character motivations.

Students in 1/2 MB perform their scripted scenes.  As a whole class the lines of the scene were practised and then students were given one of the characters to perform before coming on to the stage.  They made strong character choices based on instinct and character types.
