Year Six

Dear Year Six Community,

A massive welcome to all our Year Six families, those returning to the school and our new families starting with us this year. We do hope you had a relaxing holiday and are ready for the year ahead. Year Six is an important year, as our students embark on their final year of primary school.

Leadership

This year the Year Six students have the opportunity to apply for various leadership opportunities. Our students are busy writing their applications and learning how to write a resume and answer the application questions.      These leadership opportunities include:

  • Learning skills in First Aid,
  • Junior School Council
  • Peer Mediation
  • House Captains
  • Assisting in the office

Year 6 Polo Shirts

In Year Six, the students had an amazing experience of designing the polo shirt for 2023. Every student in the cohort had the opportunity to create a design of what Saltwater represents to them. The students then voted and the winning design was from Jayne KIRAN in 6F.

Unit of Inquiry - Who We Are

Our first Unit of Inquiry for the year is under Transdisciplinary Them 'Who We Are', where students are beginning to investigate changes in their lives help them to become the person they are. They began the unit by looking into the neurological and physical changes that young people experience as they go through puberty. Students were curious about the changes their own bodies go through and were empathetic to the changes of all students.

Kids Helpline

Over the first couple of weeks, the students have been participating in incursions run by Kids Helpline. They have been inquiring into 'Unlocking Inner Leader',  where they learned:

  • Role modelling leadership skills
  • Understanding the strengths and qualities of leaders and how these can vary.
  • Identifying students’ individual leadership strengths and qualities.
  • Empowering student's voice.
  • Developing students’ leadership qualities through the focus on confidence. development, communication, and active listening.

 Reminders

  • The beach program starts on Monday 13th of February
  • Camp Expression of Interest is due March 3rd.

We look forward to a great year ahead and excited to work alongside you all to make our student's last year of primary school memorable. Please reach out if you need anything.
