House Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 21 February and Thursday 23 February 2023, students will be participating in the Annual House Swimming Carnival. The students will have the opportunity to participate in the College House competition and win points for their affiliated House, as well as earn selection in the ACC Interschool Swimming Squad. It is a participation based event and all students are required to attend and swim in at least one race. Injured students can help assist with the running of the day. Students will attend normal timetabled classes other than those for their carnival.

 

Students will have the opportunity to nominate for particular events and divisions during their House assembly on Thursday of Week 3, except for Year 7s who will be placed in events and divisions based on their results of the Year 7 swimming trials held at the College.

 

Spectators are welcome to attend the carnival.

WHAT TO BRING:

Water bottle, sunscreen, towel, goggles, bathers 

 

UNIFORM:

Students can wear their House PE uniform TO AND FROM school on the day of their carnival. (House shirt and school shorts, tracksuit if required). Please bring dry shorts and underwear to change into after the carnival. Students are allowed to wear Mazenod College swimming bathers or their PE sports shorts to swim in.

 

The boys are expected to behave appropriately and show the sportsmanship and endeavour that is expected from Mazenod students as they compete for the Father Kevin Davine OMI Perpetual House Swimming Trophy.

 

If you would like to help out on the day please just come and see me or a member of the HPE Department prior to the commencement of the carnival you are attending. A program of events will be sent out closer to the carnival.


Mazenod / GK Swimming Opportunities

SQUAD LEVEL TRAINING

Commencing Thursday 16th February Mazenod and Guildford & Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club will be offering Mazenod students an extra squad training session to get swimmers prepped for the upcoming swimming carnivals – Interhouse and Interschool.  

 

The session will be run in the Mazenod school pool 3:30pm – 4:30pm and will be taken by Mazza Old Boy and GK Swim Coach Joshua Pendal. This session will be offered in addition to the Tuesday morning session (7-8am). If you are going to attend any of these sessions you need your parent or caregiver to email info@gkdsc.com.au 

 

SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT CLINICS

GK Swim Club is also seeking expressions of interest from Mazenod students who would be interested in stroke technique/development clinics on a Wednesday afternoon from 3.30pm for 30 minutes at the Mazenod pool. This session is aimed at those swimmers who just want to improve their swimming.  It is not aimed at competitive swimmers.  Sessions will be run by fully qualified Austswim teachers from the GK Swim club, including Mazza Old Boy Tom Bain.

 

Sessions would be held from 1st March for 6 weeks. Any interested students please email to info@gkdsc.com.au to express your interest.


Mouthguards 

The College is offering mouthguard fittings for the upcoming winter sport season. This provides a great opportunity to have a professionally fitted mouthguard. Fiitings will be held in the College gymnasium kitchen at lunchtime (12:45-1:25).

Mouthguard forms are available from the gymnasium noticeboard folders/newsletter/webpage. Please return completed forms to Mr Mason in the PE office or in the return slip box in the gymnasium foyer.  If you have any questions, please see Mr Mason in the PE office.


Mazenod Tennis Championships

The 2023 School Tennis Championships are on:

Friday 17th February

Seniors  Years 10-12

3:45 - 5:30pm

 

Saturday 18th Feb

Juniors Years 7-9

7:30 - 10:00am

 

Students are reminded that the standard of competition is very high and ONLY students who have played tennis are encouraged to nominate. If you have any questions please see Mr Mason in the PE office. Nomination forms can be collected from the gymnasium noticeboard and are to be returned by:

ACC Swimming Training 2023

The ACC Swimming Team training will start next Tuesday 14th February at 7:00am, at the College pool. Those students who represented the College in swimming at ACC level or are looking to make the team this year are encouraged to attend. Training will run every Tuesday at 7:00am until week 8. If you have any questions, please see Mr Mason or Mr Mallon.
