Relieving Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another busy fortnight at Oak Flats Public School with teaching, support, enrichment and extra-curricular programs now well underway across the school. It has been incredible to see how settled students are in their learning spaces and to see the progress that they have made in such a short space of time! Our whole school focus on PBL values and expectations and commitment from teachers to see that each child achieves their personal best is certainly evident from P-6. Students have also been busy outside of the classroom taking part in trials for representative teams in various sports. And teachers have been working with students preparing for the Southern Illawarra Dance and Music Festivals, Tournament of Minds and the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. What a great team we make at OFPS!

ATTENDANCE

This year, we are aiming for students at Oak Flats Public School, to have an attendance rate of 90% and above.

Over the past fortnight, our whole school attendance rates have been very pleasing with our Kindergarten girls leading the way at 98% and 95% of our Year 1 students attending school every day. Congratulations Oak Flats Public School and keep up the wonderful effort!

On occasion, students may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

* being sick or having an infectious disease

* having an unavoidable medical appointment

* being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

* exceptional or urgent family circumstances.

Please remember that following an absence, parents and carers are required to explain the absence within 7 days of the first day of a student’s absence. Absences can be explained via email, phone, replying to SMS notifications, School Enews or via a letter on return to school. After three days absence, a medical certificate is required.

LITTERMITTEE

This year, we are very lucky to have some extremely dedicated Stage 3 students who are working with Mrs Blazic to keep our school clean. Dubbed the “Littermittee” (Litter Committee) these students don green vests and gloves and volunteer during breaks across the week to make sure rubbish is in bins, and not in drains. On Friday, 3 March 2023, they will be working with Mrs Blazic during our Clean Up Oak Flats Day event. We are so proud of our eco-warriors... watch this space!

SCHOOL PHOTOS 2023

School photos will be held on Tuesday, 7 March 2023. Photograph order envelopes have been sent home and again this year, payment is online. Students need to wear full school summer uniform with yellow and green shirt, black shoes and white socks with no logos. Girls may also wear school dresses. Please see the timetable below for the expected times that class and portrait photographs will be taken.
