Library

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our school library. In Semester 1 (Term 1 and 2), students will be involved in teaching and learning activities from the History syllabus. The history units for Semester 1 are:

*Early Stage 1: Personal and Family Histories

*Stage 1: Past and Present Family Life

*Stage 2: British Colonisation and Exploration of Australia

*Stage 3: Australia as a Nation

Students will also be shown how to enter their Premier’s Reading Challenge books online throughout the term. Students in Years 3-6 are encouraged to complete the challenge independently and to read 20 books from the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge list specific to their learning stage. For more information, please visit https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Please ensure that your child/ren bring a library bag to school on their library day. This will ensure that library books are cared for. Please remind your children to return their library book every week (for K-2 students) and every two weeks (for 3-6 students). Students can borrow one book at a time and are encouraged to borrow frequently. The school library is open at recess for additional borrowing time for students in Years 3-6.

We also look forward to welcoming award-winning author Phillip Gwynne to our school on Monday, 27 March to share his stories and experiences as a children’s author. Students from Years P-6 will attend a 1-hour presentation in the school hall. Phillip has written books such as Small Town, The Queen with the Wobbly Bottom, Little Owl, The Lords of Melody, Stuff Happens: Michael and the young adult series The Debt.

Lastly, please review the library expectations for 2023 with your children. This will be referred to in library lessons. The expectations have been included below.

Thank you for your support of our school library.
