From the Principal

From Mr Torpey

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school stands,

the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Dear Families and Friends,

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of week 2 – our first full week for most students. By all reports, everyone seems to have settled in beautifully. Sometimes this can happen by chance, sometimes this can happen by hard work, but it’s usually a result of everyone working together. Thanks everyone for your cooperation and support.

Beginning of the School  Year and Welcoming Mass

Yesterday we held our Beginning of the School  Year and Welcoming Mass, where we officially commissioned all our new Leaders and Staff for 2023.

Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially our readers, singers, altar servers and of course,

Fr Andrew. A special thank you to Mrs Snell for organising our Welcoming Mass.

Congratulations to our school leaders for 2023. Whilst we acknowledge our official leaders for this year, we are reminded that we are all leaders, evidenced by our words and actions.

St Justin's Community Expo

A huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first ever St Justin's Community Expo. The Expo provided a great opportunity for students to show other family members around the school, introducing them to their teachers and touring the learning spaces around the school. Thanks to all the staff who made themselves available, especially our Prep Team who presented a very informative information session to start the Expo off - much appreciated.

Thanks also to all the stall holders (staff, students and parents)  who set up displays in the Undercover Area - Religious Education, Italian, Physical Education and Health, Performing Arts, STEAM, Volunteering, First Aid and Administration, Camp Australia, Fair on the Hill, Digi Tech (an after school program ran at school on Tuesdays), Parents and Friends, School Advisory Council (SAC) and Sustainability / Kitchen Garden. These stalls provided an opportunity for us all to ask questions, seek clarity and provide opportunities to be involved and connected to our school community.

Thanks also to Tony and Lisa S for organisng the BBQ and for the Parents and Friends for providing the sausages and bread.

Thanks Lux (Yr 4) for the photos

Enrolments 2024

We are in the process of preparing our enrolment documentation for 2024. If any current school families require an enrolment form for 2024, please contact the office (enrolment packs should be available by mid next week). We would like these forms returned by March 23rd 2023 so we have an idea of our numbers for 2024 before we offer places to new families.

Our Open Day is planned for on Thursday 23rd March, 9am-3pm, which is an opportunity for new families looking for a school for their children for 2024 to come along and have a look at our school and at that time collect an enrolment form.

Sun Smart

A reminder that St Justin’s Primary School is a Sun Smart School and as a result, all students are to wear their school hat that protects the face, neck and ears during breaks or lessons, throughout September to the end of April. Sun screen should also be applied at home before coming to school.

Over exposure to the sun presents a serious health risk. Students must, therefore, be educated regarding healthy UV exposure balance to help with Vitamin D and suitable sun protection, in order to be protected from overexposure to the sun whilst at school.

Students and teachers are encouraged to protect themselves from the harmful effects of the sun through strategies which use a combination of sun protection measures whenever UV Index levels reach 3 and above.

Sun protection should be used whenever UV levels are 3 or higher, especially between the months of mid-August to the end of April. During this time, parents should send appropriate sun screen to school and ensure that their child has a suitable hat.
