Purim 2023

Purim is a traditionally joyous festival, celebrating the story when the Jews of the Persian Empire were saved through the bravery of Queen Esther from the wicked advisor to the king, Haman. This story teaches us all to have courage and integrity in the face of adversity.

There is a custom to celebrate on this festival, by dressing up in fancy dress, retelling the Purim story, feasting, exchanging gifts of food and giving to charity.

To mark the event at CJC, we will be selling Hamantashen from Vinuage on Friday 3rd March in the playground after school.

Hamanatshen are pastries, which symbolize the defeated enemy of the Jewish people.  The name Hamantash is commonly viewed as a reference to Haman, the villain of Purim, as described in the Book of Esther.

The festival of Purim will be celebrated this year on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th of March.
