Japanese

This week in Japanese:

Foundation students said ‘Onigiri Onigiri gyu gyu gyu!’ while pretending to make rice ball in their hands. ‘Gyu! Gyu’ is a Japanese onomatopoeia (a word to represent a sound) for squeezing something and it appeared in their picture book. YR2 students have been learning how to introduce their pets (existing or imaginary) as well as some onomatopoeia for animal sounds.  They have also been learning onomatopoeia in their Literacy lessons, so these lessons consolidate their knowledge of onomatopoeia in different languages! It is said that Japanese has the second highest number of onomatopoeia in the wold after Korean language. Onomatopoeia often appear in daily conversations as well as manga (comic books) to describe the scenes.

Foundation students continue to learn about body parts language. They made an Onigiri character and now they have started pointing out the eyes, mouth and nose. Well done Foundation students!
