Principal Introduction
Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
Step Up and we're off! Well done to everyone for getting up and running for our 2023 academic year. I say this to everyone, as we know it's a big task for parents and carers to get their children ready for Step Up. Between the book lists, subject changes, and locker clean outs, you are also keeping your nervous darlings ready for all the new beginnings. Year 9, 10, 11, and 12 students have new electives, teachers, and possibly a different group of students in every class. This is daunting, but also a great opportunity for new friendships, and new ways of learning. Encourage your child to sit next to someone new and say 'hi, can I sit here?' Remind them that every other student is feeling the same.
I have started my new Step Up class, Year 11 English, which has an all new VCAA Study Design we are navigating. All VCE students must study English (Tertiary Pathway has English/Literature/ Language, Vocational Major has Literacy), as we develop students' critical reading and analysis skills, along with their communication and argumentative skills. Hopefully you find all EMC students are excellent in presenting you with an argument which is evidence based, well structured, and persuasive. Of course you may still say no to whatever they are asking you for, but appreciate their skills no less!
Our 2023 Year 12s finish today after a big start to Step Up. Later the Year 11s, and then the 8s, 9s, and 10s. We hope students all finish well with a positive relationship started with each teacher, a solid understanding of the learning tasks across each subject, and an optimistic look into 2023.
Parents and carers are encouraged to contact their child's new Home Group Teacher, or any subject teacher if you have any queries, or would like to let them know any additional information about the student which we may not already know.
Best wishes to all of our EMC community for a happy finish to the school year.
