EEP Excursion - Aquarium

The Enrichment and Enhancement Program (EEP) is designed to allow students opportunities to explore and enhance their learning through student directed inquiry. Students each term were given opportunities to try programs both in school and outside of school grounds that pushed students to gain insight in areas of interest as well as provide potential areas of deeper learning.

This term students from EEP had an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium where students were given the unique opportunity to look at the inner workings of the facility. During their guided tour they were given insight into how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) plays an important role in ensuring aquariums around the world support the plethora of marine life in its various forms.

Students got to see various aquatic life such as penguins, sharks and crocodiles in their different environments as well as the challenges staff had to consider in order to further support conservation of endangered species. It was refreshing to see students showing their curiosity, inquisitive nature and willingness to listen and learn outside the school environment. The tour guide was most impressed with student knowledge and questions that delved into relevant real world issues in areas of conservation and technology that enabled aquariums to function.

We look forward to organising more excursions EEP students next year.
