Assistant Principal's Report

Kelli MacDonald

We are half way through a busy Term 4 already. It only seemed a short time ago that the final term for 2022 stretched out before us. Term 4 can seem extra busy in schools as we focus on finishing the year strong while planning for the following year.

The formal exam period for our students studying Units 3 and 4 is almost over. I have been really impressed with the way the students have conducted themselves in the exams.  They have turned up early, with all their equipment, supported each other to stay calm, reflected on the exam and then moved on to the next one. I have found many nervous teachers hovering around the exam room waiting to get their hands on the paper.

Year 11 students started their exams this week. They will continue until the 15th of November, then a couple of days starting their Year 12 classes and off to camp. This term will be known as the camp term. Already we have had the Sports Academy Camp and Outdoor Ed camp. Leadership Camp and Year 9 and 10 camps are still to come.

Subject changes are being processed at the moment. Students in Years 9 -12 in 2023 had their programs confirmed recently which meant that we had a few changes to make as students changed their minds about their choices. I have had lots of conversation with students and parents/guardians about subject selection and I would like to emphasise that students should choose subjects they like, choose something that they will enjoy. Not all of subjects need to set students on their future career path.

There has been a lot of excitement this week in anticipation of the Year 10 Market Day held by the Year 10 Business students. I can confirm that the sausages and the biscuits were very delicious. I am hoping to win the ‘guess how many lollies in the jar’ competition. Money raised will support the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

I was quite moved by the Remembrance Day announcement today. It was so beautifully thought out and articulated.  It has always been an emotional moment for me as my grandfather fought in World War 2 and I heard lots of war stories growing up and proudly watched him march in parades with his medals.
