WORLD TEACHER’S DAY-  Friday 28 October 2022

This year, World Teachers’ Day is on Friday 28 October 2022. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contributions teachers make to our community.

We will recognise the passion teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through flexible learning.

During a year of significant workforce pressures, it’s never been more important to recognise the fantastic work of teachers. 2022 has seen Victorian teachers deliver quality education following the wide-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by showing incredible flexibility, courage and resilience.

It underlines why teachers are so important to our society. Every day, we should be thankful for the significant role teachers play in the lives of children, students, their families and communities.

We will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day by holding a morning tea at school and acknowledging at our school assembly.

REAL SCHOOLS PARENT INFORMATION BBQ & SESSION

The well-being of our students is a top priority at Warrnambool Primary School. Our vision is to provide an inclusive education, nurturing students to flourish and reach their academic, social and emotional potential. Our school values of confidence, curiosity, positivity and pride are those which we live by at Warrnambool Primary School. We encourage our students and staff to be positive people where they take notice of themselves and others; where they give of themselves; where they continue to be active in their school and community life; where they connect with each other and their school and where they develop into life-long learners. We have formed a strong partnership with ‘Real Schools’ which is a highly valued well-being program which focuses on strengthening the culture in schools. Warrnambool Primary School has partnered with Real Schools to enhance our school culture and focus on the things that really matter:

YEAR 5/6 CAMPS

A huge thankyou goes out to staff and parent helpers who attended the camps last week in Ballarat. The students had a wonderful time and all reports were that they were a credit to themselves and their families.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for supporting the Warrnambool Primary School camps and excursion programs. We understand that it can be difficult but the children receive so much benefit from their attendance that we will continue to provide these wonderful events.

UNIFORM SURVEY

Thank-you to all parents who completed the short uniform survey this week. There has been a great response from our families with over 100 replies. As expected the opinions are varied but we have some good information to take to school council for further discussion.

DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH- OCTOBER

Having a child diagnosed with dyslexia can be a traumatic experience. While dyslexia can make reading more difficult, with the right instruction, almost all individuals with dyslexia can learn to read. Many people with dyslexia have gone on to accomplish great things. Among the many dyslexia success stories are Thomas Edison, Stephen Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Kerry Packer and Richard Branson.

Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. But some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.

Our fantastic teaching team at Warrnambool Primary School have been working diligently on our explicit direct instruction which is research based and known to help children with dyslexia achieve better outcomes.
