Year 5/6 Class Performances

Last Monday evening students from Year 5/6 did a brilliant job of acting out their plays in front of family and friends. The level of energy and enthusiasm for the performances was most evident and all students did an amazing job. A special thanks to Mr Chris Hoyne who ensured all students had their moment to shine by providing short plays that afforded each student the chance to say plenty of lines and be an integral part of the performance.

As you are aware, this is Chris’ last year with us so these performances have a special meaning for our school community and we thank Chris for providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.

On Monday evening (Nov 21), we gather in the Hall at 7pm for the Year 3/4 performances. Year 3/4 families are encouraged to attend to enjoy the performances.

Uniform

The Our Lady Help of Christian School uniform is a symbol of the school's history and story, and with our logo it provides a visible representation of our Catholic identity as a school. Since I started here I have had numerous student persuasive texts asking me if the school could consider other options for the school jumper. Likewise, parents on the School Advisory Council (SAC) suggested a review of the uniform to reflect on how it can continue to be a proud representation of our school as well as being practical and comfortable. A sub committee of the SAC looked at all aspects of the uniform and the processes involved in sourcing our uniform.

As a result I am pleased to announce that we have decided to make a few changes. Please take some time to read the information provided on the Uniform page of this edition of the newsletter.

Many thanks to Kate Lewis and Jacki Landy from the SAC for their work on this project and to Liz and Loretta from our office for their input and their continued great work with our uniform and the administration required.

Remembrance Day

Last Friday students and staff gathered to pay our respects and pray for Remembrance Day. This day is of course an important tradition and our school leaders did a wonderful job leading the service in a respectful and reverent manner. The Armistice of November 11, 1918, maybe over one hundred years ago, but it is important that our community takes some time to recognise the legacy of those that fought bravely in war and armed conflict.

They shall grow not old,

as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

As the going down of the sun and in the morning

We shall remember them.

School Advisory Council

Thank you to those parents who have expressed an interest in being a part of the School Advisory Council (SAC) for 2023 and beyond. Parents and carers can still express interest by filling out this form or having a chat with SAC Chair Kate Lewis (kjlewis100@gmail.com) or Deputy Chair Mark Lafferty (Mark.Lafferty@cbre.com.au). We aim to finalise the council members before the end of the school year.

School Closure Day

A reminder that our final school closure day is on Monday December 5 to provide time for staff to prepare for 2023.
