Last Friday we held our Sports Awards Breakfast, celebrating sporting achievements and commitment to our inter-school sports program. We have not been able to run this event for the last 2 years, so it was fantastic to fill the GMR with students, parents and guest speakers. The morning ran smoothly with thanks to our wonderful Sports Captains who welcomed our guest speakers and announced the award winners.
We were lucky to have two amazing guest speakers Dominic Bedggood and Lucy Bartholomew. Dominic, an Olympic and Commonwealth Diver, took up Diving at the age of 16. He spoke about the commitment he had to make to his sport at a young age and how he could not have done it without the support of his family.
Lucy, an ultra marathon runner, spoke about how sport in school made her realise her love of running. How she had many doubters at a young age but her passion, positive words from her dad and looking after her body allowed her to continue doing what she loved and allows her to continue being a trail blazer for her sport.
Thank you to Dominic and Lucy for their inspirational speeches.

The U14 Girls Oztag State Finals day took place last Friday 18 November. The year 8 and year 7 girls had been training hard twice a week for this day, so it was very exciting to see them take the field. The conditions were wet and slippery which added another layer of difficulty to each game. They were up against some tough competition who had been training hard as well, with 2 schools entering Academy Oztag teams. The girls put in a stellar effort and played with incredible sports-person-ship and put up a fight in each game with some amazing highlights and touchdowns from our team. Unfortunately we ended the day without placing, but there is always next year. Our team was comprised mostly of Year 7s who are excited to play again in the same age group next year!

The Intermediate Girls Cricket team's dream run to the state semi finals finally came to an end against Maribyrnong Secondary College. The girls batted first and the day got off to the worst possible start with Meg Orr hitting a blistering pull shot which was caught incredibly by the mid-wicket fielder. Acacia and Indi steadied the ship making scores in the teens. In the end the girls were bowled out for 54 which was not enough against a super strong MSC batting line up. A fantastic effort to make it that far and it was a privilege to coach such an outstanding group of girls across the year.

Once again over the year several of our team uniform items have gone missing. Can we please ask families to check their cupboards, laundry baskets, school bags etc ? Basically if it has NHS and a number on the front or back it belongs to the sport department. Replacing these items is costly, which may end up costing families in the long run. From time to time students forget to hand their team uniform back at the end of the competition. Please return any items to the PE Office or the front office.
On Friday our last Interschool sport team is going out to compete for the year. We wish our Year 7 Boys Table Tennis Team and their coaches all the best in the State Final. Congratulations Boys, you should be proud of yourselves to make it to the State Finals.
After the last 2 years, it was so good to have uninterrupted sport for the whole year. Win, lose or draw, having students playing sport again is a healthy balance for everyone. Thank you to students, staff and parents for helping the sport department this year. Looking forward to an even better 2023.
