Senior Secondary

What's been happening?

The busy hive of Senior Secondary has been nothing but short of a buzz this semester and it isn’t over yet. Just last week, students of year 11 and 12 hosted their second culminating event for the year driven by their project-based learning unit: Sustainability Expo Market Stall. This semester has seen the students lead our cohort on a path exploring Sustainability. Students have been investigating and practicing methods to live in a more sustainable way.

The school recycling program has been a success with students ready for another containers drop-off due very soon.  Students experienced the repurposing of materials to create artwork and delved into the world of handmade products making self-care. It is safe to say there are a few budding entrepreneurs within the group now. From the researching of ideas, to choosing colours, requesting purchasing approval, calculating prices, planning set-up and selling their items, it has all been nothing short of fun. The students sold out of their self-care pamper packs on the day of their Expo. The enjoyment our team has witnessed from the student group throughout each stage of the process has been an inspiration.

Coffee & hot chocolates were noticed by the students to be the products of high success and were something the staff consistently sought after. The residual coffee grounds from the coffee shop went into the compost and students sourced keep-cups for staff to pre-purchase as a part of their sustainability plans. The regular sales of coffee orders have supported the purchasing of resources throughout the semester for the cohort’s programs. Furthermore, the successful sales from the students’ market stall items has been a huge reward for the group. These funds will continue to be utilised within Senior Secondary for the continued running and development of curriculum programs designed to support our year 11 and 12 students with their pathways toward their futures.

Week 6, Term 4 has the final preparations for Year 12 Graduation upon us, with students putting the finishing touches on their speeches. 2023’s leaders are busy writing their speeches for School Captain nominations to be held in the coming weeks. We wish each of them the greatest of success and will await announcements at the end of year concert.
