From the President

Mr Zac Piesse (SVC 2008-11)

Thank you to those who attended the OVA Dinner last month. It was wonderful to celebrate the achievements of our thoroughly deserving Roll of Honour inductees for 2022. Thank you to Graeme Rainbow and Bruce Woods in their instrumental organisation of the evening. It was an enjoyable evening for young and young at heart.

We look forward to the OVA Golf Day which will be held next Friday November 11 and I would like to thank for Michael Harvey and committee members who are coordinating the event. My handicap has come down nicely, so I plan on taking home the trophy at the end of the day! One can only dream! The long-range weather forecast looks promising and we hope the rain will hold off. We can only pray for an incredible, sunny day as it was last year. If you haven't yet paid your entry fee please make your arrangements now. For any enquiries, please contact Michael by email, rooboy@bigpond.net.au

Unfortunately, the intended Memorial Mass/Luncheon for November will not go ahead.  Aligning the necessary components to make this gathering possible has proved difficult.  The Old Virgilians Association has, for the past many years, combined with this event with the College’s Graduation Mass at the Cathedral. There will be no Graduation Mass as our current Year 10 students are invited to continue at the College next year with the re-introduction of Year 11. The OVA acknowledges the November church tradition of remembering those who have passed. By way of honouring this tradition a list of the former students who have died during the past 12 months is included later in the newsletter. The list may be incomplete as the committee relies on the  local press and family/friend contact for its  compilation.

Also included in this edition of OVAtion is a reminder of the process for the annual selection of those to be inducted onto the Heritage Roll of Honour. The Roll was initiated in 2006 and now contains 82 names. Of these 16 were added posthumously whilst another 16 have passed since their induction. A full list of the 82 can be viewed in the Association website, www.oldvirgilians.org.au.

The OVAtions newsletter was commenced in September 2017 and this is the 61st edition. Please check with your Old Virgilian mates that they are aware of this publication and the OVA website. The site provides the process for registering to get the newsletter automatically each month.

I am pleased to announce that the Words & Deeds magazine will resume two editions each year from 2023. Your copy of the 2022 edition will be in the mail in early December. If you need to update your address, please complete the 'Update My Details' form at www.oldvirgilians.org.au
