You’ll also find Fact Sheets, suggested books, apps, and helpful websites. SchoolTV is independent, and it uses some great content from organisations such as Beyond Blue, ReachOut and HeadSpace.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

Last Tuesday saw the running of our Woorayl District Athletic Carnival at the velodrome. In excellent conditions, our team performed very well to win the handicapped shield, finished third in the aggregate shield, Rachel Denbrok being declared age champion and many students qualifying to compete at the division level on the 9th September at Casey Fields. Our students were great ambassadors for our school with their behaviour, encouragement and support for each other being most pleasing.

A special mention to Leongatha Athletics Club who presented the carnival. The ground, organisation and their input on the day was of the highest order- well done to Ben Cruickshank and his team. Also a big thank you to Shelley Snooks from Korumburra P.S. for her great organisation and efficiency to make the sports run very smoothly.

3-6 CROSS COUNTRY

Last Tuesday saw the running of our annual cross-country at Mary Mackillop College. The course was a good challenge with the eleven and twelve year olds running three kilometres and the nines and tens two kilometres. We would like to thank Mary Mackillop for the use of their facilities and the help that some of their students provided in manning the course and packing up at the end of the day. Also our parent involvement was greatly appreciated and your help and support makes organising such events a lot easier.

Our students performed well and worked hard to complete the course. We have some students who have now qualified for the division cross-country to be run at Stony Creek Racecourse next Thursday, 26th May. Our school is allowed three starters in each age group. Children who qualified should have already received the necessary information.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

I am excited to announce that St Laurence’s is participating in Jump Rope for Heart this year – a fantastic fundraising and physical activity program by the Heart Foundation.

By participating in Jump Rope for Heart this term, I’m expecting to get our students moving. We’ll have ropes available on the school grounds and encouraging everyone to help raise funds for lifesaving research and support programs.

Over the coming weeks your child will learn new skills, increase their physical activity, and learn about heart health. And the program will end with our school wide ‘Jump Off Day’ on the 24th of June where your child gets to show off their new skipping skills to their friends.

When you register your child online you’ll get access to additional skipping resources to help give your child a great reason to get away from the screens and get outdoors. Register and create your own secure webpage atjumprope.org.au/parents

By signing up online, you and your child can:

  • Easily raise funds online
  • Track skipping skills progress and earn virtual badges along the way
  • Post updates to your page so family and friends can follow their progress
  • Access additional skipping resources

Please take a look at the ‘fundraising guide’ flyer attached, which includes further information on the program. If you need any further information, please visit jumprope.org.au/parents

Thank you for getting involved in Jump Rope for Heart!

PRAYER

National Sorry Day Prayer

Holy father, God of love, You are the creator of this land and of all good things.

We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history and the suffering of our peoples- especially the grief of those who were taken, as children from their homes and families, taken from all they knew and loved.

We ask your forgiveness.

We thank you for the survival of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Our hope is in you, because you gave your son Jesus to reconcile the world to you.

We pray for your strength and grace to forgive, accept and love one another, as you love, forgive, and accept us.

Give us the courage to acknowledge the realities of our history so that we may build a better future for our nation.

Teach us to respect all cultures.

Tech us to care for our land and waters.

Help us to share justly the resources of this land.

Help us to bring about spiritual and social change to improve the quality of life for all peoples in our communities, especially the disadvantaged.

Help young people to find true dignity and self-esteem in the ways of your Spirit.

May your power and love be the foundations on which we build our families, our communities and our Nation.

Amen
